PCL is made up of independent operating companies, which are wholly owned by PCL Employees Holdings, which, as its name suggests, is privately owned by its employees. At the conclusion of the fiscal year 2004, PCL's billings were in the range of $3.2 billion. The Toronto district is PCL's largest, currently employing over 450 people. The Toronto district has built many of PCL's signature projects such as Brookfield Place and Scotia Plaza

PCL began operations in 1906, as E.E. Poole Contractors, founded by Ernest Poole of Stoughton, Saskatchewan

. In 1913, Ernest Poole relocated the company to Regina

. John and George Poole - Ernest's sons - purchased the company in 1948 and 29 years later in 1977 sold it to employees. In 1978, Poole Construction Company Limited became PCL Construction Limited.

Contribution to Scouts Canada

When Ernest Poole died, he left a large sum of land to Scouts Canada, on lake Wabamun in Alberta, Canada. This is now known as the Ernest Poole Scout camp, and is currently run by Scouts Canada by a few hard working gentlemen, willing to spend a great deal of time helping Scouts Canada.
