As a result most of the town was completely destroyed. In the decades after the war the town was rebuild and now is a home to approximately 3650 people.

In 2000 the town was given a new major tourist attraction the Zoo Parc Overloon.

Sports

Overloon has an amateur football club named SSS'18. It also has a fierce rivalry with nearby Vierlingsbeek's club Volharding.
