History

Otelfingen is first mentioned in 1044 as Otilingun though there is some debate about this identification. In 1079 it was mentioned as Notkerus de Otelfingen.

Geography

Otelfingen has an area of 7.2 km² (2.8 sq mi). Of this area, 47.1% is used for agricultural purposes, while 37.1% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 14.8% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (1%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).

The majority of the municipality is the village of Otelfingen, a Haufendorf (an irregular, unplanned and quite closely packed village, built around a central square) located in the Furttal
