History

The site on which Ongar is built is the site of a former stud farm whose previous owners include the Aga Khan

The area includes a mix of apartments and larger houses. Nearby housing developments include Hazelbury Green and Beechfield

As a greenfield development, Ongar's master plan provided for a main street, where most commercial development would be concentrated, with guidelines so that a traditional Irish village look and feel would prevail. Today Main Street holds a supermarket and other grocery providers, service providers including a medical centre, hairdressers a florist and a number of eating places.

Education

The Castaheaney Educate Together Primary School moved to a permanent location in Ongar in June 2008. A new primary school Scoil Benedict also opened in 2010. It had been temporarily located in Littlepace
