 station serving nearby residential communities, with a parking lot of 788 spaces. It also connects to several bus lines. The fiscal year 2009 average weekday boardings at the station were 5,994, which was a 5.94% increase over fiscal year 2008.

A single platform is in place on the Haverhill commuter rail line which passes through the station. However, the platform is only used for commuter rail service when the Orange Line is disrupted.

  • 131 Melrose Highlands - Malden Center Station via East Side Melrose & Oak Grove (During rush hour, route 131 only services Oak Grove and omits Malden Center Station)

Defunct Bus Lines

  • "130 Lebanon Street, Melrose - Malden Center Station via Lebanon Street Melrose, Sylvan Street & Oak Grove" was discontinued in the early 2000s when the 106 was extended to Franklin Square. The reason for the cease in service was a lack in ridership. The closure of this route allowed the service frequency of the 132 to improve from running at 90 minutes or better to 60 minutes or better.
  • "135 Wakefield Square - Oak Grove Station via Wakefield, Greenwood & Downtown Melrose" which was a shortened version of the 136 or 137 route was a footnote on the 136/137 schedule until the MBTA decided in 2004 that it was better to renumber the route as various versions of the 136.
