Future extensions


A 1 km one station extension to the North South Line will be constructed and completed by 2014. The new station will be located near the upcoming International Cruise Terminal at Marina Bay.
Minister Raymond Lim announced on 12 February 2009 that the completion date for the extension will be brought forward by a year to 2014.

At least 2 more stations may be added to the line in the future since alphanumeric codes NS6 & NS12 have been reserved for future use.

Jurong East Modification Project


The Jurong East Modification Project (JEMP) consists of the construction of a new platform and the addition of a fourth track to Jurong East Station by 2012. The North South Line currently utilises one track at Jurong East for layover hence a second track will increase the frequency of the North South Line. Once completed, it is expected to reduce waiting time for commuters from 4.5 minutes to 2.5 minutes. On 12 February 2009, Minister Raymond Lim announced that the JEMP will be completed by 2011, one year ahead of schedule.
