Norman Friedman, P.h.D. is an American author and naval analyst. He has written over 30 books on naval matters, and appeared on television programs on PBS and the Discovery Networks. His book Fifty-Year War: Conflict and Strategy in the Cold War won the 2001 Westminster Prize for the best military history book of the previous year, from the British Royal United Services Institute
