Nil points

Nil points is French for zero points and refers to the situation whereby an artist or act at the Eurovision Song Contest receives no points during the voting. In the present voting system (adopted in 1975), countries award points from 1 to 8 then 10 and finally 12 for the acts they consider to be the best, but they are barred from voting for their own act. It can, therefore, happen that a country's act will never receive any vote from any country.

Only Switzerland has received nil points in the semi finals, so far.
The term is now used colloquially either as an abuse or in jest.
