Background
Nicole was conceived by teenage parents Roman Harris and Nat Franklin, and raised by her maternal grandparents. She views her mother Nat as an older sister and did not meet her father until her early teens, because when she was conceived her grandparents sent Nat away so that Roman could not contact them.Nicole Franklin entered the Bay like a whirlwind, bringing in her flashy car, designer clothes, and high maintenance attitude.
As a 17 year-old spoilt princess, the feisty young teen instantly stirs things up at home and with the boys. While Nicole might come off as a bitchy princess to most people, she’s not malicious. She’s simply as shallow as a puddle, and while she might cause others emotional pain, it’s totally unintentional. She hasn’t got the empathy to even realise what she’s done. Nicole is a girl who lives to have fun, and she is fun if you accept her for who she is. And, of course, she thinks you’re worth her attention. Nicole is a girl who knows exactly who she is and where she stands: at the centre of the universe.
It’s not her entirely her fault though. The result of a very young union between Roman and her mother, she was raised mostly by her grandparents, and spoiled rotten. She’s been praised all her life for being a pretty little princess, and she’s never had the need to develop into anything more. She sees her mother as more of an older sister than a parental figure, but that’s never been a problem, and she’s always enjoyed the slight rivalry between them. She’s never been too bothered by the lack of a father figure, and she’s had plenty of fun wrapping the other males in her life around her fingers. She’s always been happy, if only because she lacks the emotional capacity to feel any real emotional pain. As far as she’s concerned, there’s no reason not to be happy.
Storylines
Arrival in Summer Bay
Nicole arrived in Summer Bay on 18 April 2008 to live with her father, Roman Harris. She persuaded him to enrol her in Summer Bay High.
Nicole reveals the real reason
Nicole’s history begins to unravel and she reveals the real reason she came to Summer Bay was to get away from her mother's boyfriend, who was making inappropriate advances.
The $200 bet
She initially comes across as a snobby and materialistic rich girl. One of her first acts in the Bay is to make a $200 bet with Aden Jefferies, a troubled teenager living with Roman, that she could get local devout Christian Geoff Campbell into bed. This behaviour ultimately plays havoc with Geoff's relationship with Melody Jones. Geoff decides to gain a measure of revenge by inviting some friends over for kissing lessons (which Nicole had been offering to Geoff at school) and taking photos which means she loses the bet. Dejected and humiliated, Nicole tries to make amends to all of those she hurt.
Helping Melody
After Roman grounds her for helping Melody to contact Geoff against her mother's wishes, Nicole throws a massive house party. The party coincides with the grand opening of Summer Bay's new teen hangout, The Den. As a result, many kids receive SMS messages and go on to the party at Roman's. Things begin to get out of hand when gatecrashers from as far as Mangrove River arrive. With the help Aden, Nicole tries to get everyone out and clean up before Roman comes home, however Axel Hay, a friend of Aden's, spoils the ruse. Roman punishes Nicole by forcing her to work at the diner and lecturing her about how her party hurt Roman's friend and business partner Leah Patterson-Baker's opening of the Den. Nicole later apologises to Leah.
First Elliot, and than back to Geoff
Nicole initially dates Elliot Gillien, however they break up when Nicole sees a side to him which she does not like. In a cliffhanger episode screened immediately before the 2008 Summer Olympics, she is kidnapped by Elliot. She ends up lost on an island with Geoff Campbell, to whom she later confesses her feelings. Thinking they will never be rescued, they sleep together. They plan to become a couple however they subsequently break up due to differences in their beliefs about sex before marriage. She develops pneumonia from being stranded on the island with Geoff, but has since recovered. After a pregnancy scare, Geoff and Nicole finally get their relationship on track.
Finally some father-daughter time
Nicole's attitude to her father Roman begins to change, as she finally begins to realise that she has taken him for granted. and finally sees him as the father she has always wanted and needed. She also finds out that Roman was the father of the baby girl that Martha Holden miscarried; she attends a private memorial service for the baby.
Natalie is back
Nicole receives an upset phone call from her mother, Natalie Franklin. She visits her in the city to find out what is wrong. Nat states that she kicked out her husband Roy (Nicole's step-father) when she realised that it was true that he had made a pass at Nicole. Nicole's ex-boyfriend Trent later tells her that everything Nat said was a lie, and that Roy had left Nat for another woman.
Nicole and Geoff
Nicole is now dating Geoff, after both admitting they still share feelings for each other. Geoff's former girlfriend Melody Jones has tried to break up the couple but failed at all attempts. Geoff also invited Melody to the school formal without consulting Nicole, making Nicole very angry with both of them. In the end, however, Melody is grounded and Nicole's date leaves her to go to meet his boyfriend, so Nicole and Geoff end up spending the night together at the formal. However, Melody locks the doors to the building and causes a car accident, starting a fire. The school principal relies upon Geoff and Nicole to direct the trapped students, and upon their rescue thanks them for what they have done. Nicole helps Aden out and then Aden pushes her against the wall and tells her he doesn't need her help and her friend Llex Forrester retuns in 2010
Melody is back in Summer Bay
When Nicole and Geoff got together there were bound to be a few dramas and one walking drama was Melody Jones. After her ordeal over Axel, Melody went away to stay at a clinic to get back on track. However since coming back to Summer Bay she has been a nightmare! That's not all; Melody is still very much love sick for Geoff, so she'll do just about anything to break him and Nicole up! A bit later, Aden goes for a job interview and Nicole wrecks it. Aden doesn't speak to Nicole for a while.
Freya and Nicole
Nicole is kissed by Freya Duric but she later regrets it because of the bad reaction from Roman and Geoff. Now Freya has left the Bay.
In 2009 Freya returns and kills Roman.
