Nick Enright (22 December 1950-30 March 2003) was an Australian playwright.
as Dux of St Ignatius' College, Riverview in 1967, where, like Gerard Windsor and Justin Fleming, he was taught by Melvyn Morrow. At that school, he won the GPS Schools 1sts Debating Premiership in both 1966 and 1967, also winning the prestigious Lawrence Campbell Oratory Competition in 1966, whilst in Year 11.
Enright received a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Sydney in 1972, and from there, an MFA from New York University School of Arts in 1977.
He taught at NIDA during the 1980s.
His plays have been performed by most major Australian theatre companies, including Sydney Theatre Company, Company B, Melbourne Theatre Company, Queensland Theatre Company, State Theatre Company of South Australia, the Ensemble Theatre,
Playbox, La Boite Theatre, and the Australian Theatre for Young People.
He was nominated for an Academy Award for his screenplay of Lorenzo's Oil (1992), co-written with director George Miller.
His play A Property of the Clan was developed into the play Blackrock.
