In August 2008, a group of party members disappointed with the leadership of Andrej Bajuk
, whom they accused of following excessive liberal policies, left New Slovenia and formed a new party, the Christian Democratic Party, however they also failed to achieve any success, managing only 0.68% of the vote.
Until recently it was led by Andrej Bajuk
, forming part of the Janez Janša
-lead government. After the elective failure of 2008 Bajuk announced his immediate resignation and retirement from politics. The acting president, pending a party congress, is Ljudmila Novak

NSi is a member of the European People's Party
