Almost all of the district's schools have been renovated under a 15-year, $1.5 billion School Construction Program; the effort is to improve city public schools and erase the bad reputation that New Haven public schools had acquired in past decades. In 2010 the district stopped the practice of dating diplomas "in the year of our Lord".
