Athletes from the Netherlands competed at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. The team of 35 competed in speed skating, bobsleigh, short track speed skating and snowboarding. The Dutch flag bearer during the opening ceremony was speedskater Jan Bos.
Historically, the Dutch have only won medals in skating; of their 78 Winter Olympic medals since 1952, 75 have been won in speed skating, and a further three in figure skating.

Historically, the Dutch have only won medals in skating; of their 78 Winter Olympic medals since 1952, 75 have been won in speed skating, and a further three in figure skating. The Netherlands have not won a figure skating medal since 1976.
Dirk Matschenz (skeleton) did meet the limits set by the Dutch Olympic Committee but did not participate because he did not get his Dutch passport before the start of the Olympics. Matschenz is originally from Germany.

Snowboarding
Two women are selected for the Netherlands in snowboarding events in Torino; Cheryl Maas has been selected for the halfpipe event while Nicolien Sauerbreij has made it to the parallel giant slalom event. Although qualifying 4th for the final event, during the final Maas landed on the top edge of the halfpipe, fell and became 11th.

Halfpipe
Women’s halfpipe
In women’s halfpipe, there were two qualifying runs. The top 6 women from each qualifying run were advanced to the finals. In the first qualifying run, the top 6 scores ranged from 34.5 - 44.9 points. In the second qualifying run, the top 6 scores ranged from a 34.8 - 43.1 points. Hannah Teter from the United States won the gold medal with a final run score of 46.4 points. Chikako Fushimi of Japan had the lowest final score of 15.6 points and took 12th place.
