es evolve, spread and cause disease. Another recent initiative are the BRCs (Bioinformatics Resource Centers), a group of eight centers dedicated to the computer-based storage, annotation, and analysis of genomic and proteomic data of NIAID Category A, B, and C priority pathogens, together with other emerging and re-emerging pathogens. Emphasis is placed on reliable and current storage/curation of the data and providing both easy access to them through Web interfaces and linked analysis tools useful to researchers in the field. The goal is to assist researchers in their exploration of the biological systems in question and in integrating the many types of data now available (genomic, proteomic, biochemical, and microbiological).
