Mughalsarai is bifurcated by G T Road in two parts. The northern part mainly consists of Railway colonies like European Colony (Vasant Vihar), Diesel Colony, Haper Colony, Loco Colony and Roza Colony and the southern part consists of residential areas like Galla Mandi,Eastern Bazar,Kasab Mohal,Western Bazar, New Mahal, Lot no. 2, Hanumanpur, Ravi Nagar and Kailashpuri and some railways colonies like Shashtri Colony, Manas nagar colony, kurhkala and R.P.F. Colony, Gaya Colony [Dheeraj] .
Kailashpuri is considered as the poshest colony of Mughalsarai.

Railways

Mughalsarai is most famous for its railway yard and its railway colonies. There are about 16 railway colonies. Mughalsarai Railway Division belongs to East Central Railway (ECR) Zone of the Indian Railway. About 125+ passenger trains pass from Mughalsarai Junction. The Divisional Rail Manager (DRM) office of Mughalsarai Division is situated here. At Mughalsarai Junction, two most important railway lines meet 1) Main Line (Delhi-Kanpur-Allahabad-Patna-Gaya-Howrah) and 2) Detour Line (Delhi-Moradabad-Bareilly-Lucknow-Varanasi-Gaya-Howrah).
