Mr. Belvedere Rings the Bell is a 1951 comedy film, the third and final one starring Clifton Webb
as Lynn Belvedere. Mr. Belvedere lies about his age and lives in a senior citizens home to determine if there was any point in growing old. As a result, he inspired the residents of the senior citizen home that even at an older age, life is worth living if you use your imagination.
The film was based on the play The Silver Whistle by Robert E. MacEnroe. However, although the plot of the film remained basically that of the play, Belvedere was not a character in The Silver Whistle. The leading character was a hobo named Oliver Erwenter, played by José Ferrer
. The Silver Whistle, with all of its original characters, was telecast in 1959 on Playhouse 90
