In February 2008, a sports and remedial massage parlour opened, replacing a hairdressing salon, but was closed by October 2008 and this unit is still vacant one year on. The village restaurant is having change of ownership as of October 2009. There are also some other businesses within Methven. Work began on a new pedestrian crossing in the village in 2008, but has been slow to progress with it still not complete as of February 2009. Locals have campaigned for a crossing for years because of the busy main road that cuts through the village. The work to install it (as well as nearby works to upgrade the gas pipe network in the village) caused some disruption.
