. It grows up to 10 metres high, has a rounded canopy and develops a thick, papery bark. Younger branchlets are covered with dense hairs. The species was first formally described in 1864 in Bulletin de la Société Botanique de France and named Callistemon pancheri. In 1998, the species was transferred to the genus Melaleuca
