In 1975, the Army had 73 marshals - meaning that there were more Brazilian marshals than French and English ones together throughout the twentieth century. Today, Brazil has only one living marshal, Waldemar Levy Cardoso

The last marshal was active in the Brazilian Mascarenhas de Moraes, depending on the position of commander of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force, which by a decree of the National Congress was held honorary lifetime in the form of active troops, until his death in 1968.
