Purpose
MAG is responsible for developing policy in the areas of regional development and transportation, air and water quality, and human services. The council was formed in the spirit of cooperation amongst the differing levels of government.

serves as the representative member of the regional council. For the Indian Reservations, the Tribal Governor or President serves as the representative. The Chair of the Board of Supervisors for Maricopa County generally serves as the regional council representative member for Maricopa County. The Executive Committee of the council is elected by the other council members on an annual basis, and are required to include a Chair, Vice Chair and Treasurer of the Regional Council. The Executive Committee was expanded in 2002 to include seven members, allowing for additional participation by the other member agencies.
