History

The location of Lynbrook was originally called Bloomfield. It was later named Pearsall's Corners, after Mr. Pearsall's General Store because this store became a famous stage coach stop for travelers coming from New York City to Long Island. The village was incorporated in 1911. The name "Lynbrook" is derived by dividing "Brooklyn

Schools

Lynbrook has seven public schools: -Lynbrook Kindergarten Center, Marion Street Elementary School, West End Elementary School, Waverly Park Elementary School, Lynbrook South Middle School, which is a 2007 National Blue Ribbon School, Lynbrook North Middle School, Lynbrook Senior High School (LHS). The District has a total enrollment of 3,140. Lynbrook's school mascot is the fighting owl.

In addition to public schools, Lynbrook also has a parochial school, Our Lady of Peace School. Located on Merrick Road, the school serves students from preschool to 8th grade.
