Political career

As a Utah State Senator, Hillyard is well-positioned to influence Utah legislation relating to education and to state revenues. He is the chair of the Senate's Executive Appropriations Committee, and is a member of the Public Education Appropriations committee. He is also a member of two standing senate committees: the Education Committee, and the Judiciary, Law Enforcement, and Criminal Justice Committee.
