Neil Dylandy
Season 1
Born Neil Dylandy, Lockon was raised in Ireland. He witnessed the death of his parents and sister Amy, at a young age, in a terrorist attack, and has carried a deep resentment towards terrorists ever since. This was the motivating factor towards his joining Celestial Being and continuing action in the organization.
Lockon has an orange Haro that helped him in piloting his Gundam. He also owned blue, violet, pink, and green Haros that did the maintenance on his Gundam and are related to the orange Haro as well as the purple Haro of Nena.
In episode 19, Johann Trinity revealed that Setsuna was a part of the organization responsible for the deaths of most of Lockon’s family. In confronting him about it, Setsuna did not deny his involvement, and even implied that he would understand if Lockon were to kill him, given that his hope to eradicate war would continue in Lockon. Lockon, however, decided against shooting him, understanding that their real enemy is the man behind KPSA, Ali Al-Saachez.
During the GN-X assault on the Ptolemaios, Lockon was injured thwarting Patrick Colasour's attack on the GN-005 Gundam Virtue and its pilot Tieria Erde, resulting in not only the near-destruction of Dynames (of which the cockpit was damaged beyond repair), but also an impairment of his right eye, the extent of which was unknown. When Lockon was told that he would have to stay on the Ptolemaios for 3 weeks in order to make a full recovery, he instead resolved to keep on fighting, despite Dynames' damaged state and his own physical limitations.
During another joint UN incursion, Lockon launched Dynames with the GN Arms after being told that Ali Al-Saachez is part of the assault force. Lockon destroyed two UN mobile suit carriers with the GN Arms attachment. However, a timely intervention from Ali Al-Saachez in a back attack destroys the arm cannon of the GN arms, interrupting Lockon's attack on the last carrier. He escapes the mobile armor as a cannon shot blasts apart the GN arms. Lockon then turns his attention on Ali Al-Saachez and initially overpowered the stolen Throne Gundam but was soon overwhelmed by a suicide strike by the Union pilot Daryl Dodge's severely damaged GN-X. Ali Al-Saachez took the opportunity to take advantage of Lockon's inability to see his right side and damage the Dynames remaining limbs by using Throne Zwei's Fangs. As a last ditch effort, he jettisoned from the cockpit, connected his sniper module into a drifting GN Arms cannon, and attempted to shoot down Ali Al-Saachez. Lockon and Ali fired simeaultaneously at each other and both units took massive damage. After the GN-Arms cannon was hit, Lockon drifted into space as he reflected upon the world. Setsuna F Seiei, who was returning from Earth, attempted an ultimately unsuccessful rescue mission to save Stratos. Lockon's last action was to point at the Earth in an homage to his sniper background and say that he hated the world's current state. He met his end, when the GN-Cannon exploded.
Dynames was returned to the Ptolemios by Lockon's orange Haro. At first, everyone believes Lockon has survived, but upon hearing Haro calling out to Lockon repeatedly, they realize Lockon is dead and cry over his demise. The ending scene of the Gundam Meister PS2 Video Game confirms Lockon's death as the visor in his helmet shatters after the explosion of the GN-Cannon, and Tieria later (in AD 2311, one year before the events of season two) visits the Dylandy grave in mourning.
Season 2
Neil's likeness makes an appearance in episode 8 of season two, in which Tieria envisions him giving a pep talk, telling Tieria to "take a chance and do what you feel like" in regards to Regene's offer to join the Innovators. He appeared once again in episode 15, this time, in Setsuna's dream, telling him that the past can never be changed and not to make the same mistake that he did.
Abilities As the sharpshooter for the Gundam Meisters, Neil proved his value in combat against overwhelming odds several times. Even during his final battle against Ali Al-Saachez he demonstrated himself to be a fearsome opponent, despite his eye injury and the fact that his mobile suit was damaged beyond repair. Furthermore, Neil not only shows himself to be an accomplished sharpshooter while piloting Gundam Dynames, but also is perfectly capable of wielding a sniper rifle by himself with deadly accuracy.
Personality Neil was the most easygoing of the Meisters. He was a much more understanding character towards some of the actions of other individuals of Celestial Being. He never objected to helping other pilots; an example of this is observed during his actions in aiding the recovery of a disconnected gravity block. Despite being the most easygoing Meister, he does strictly follow the Celestial Being code of secrecy as shown when he punches Setsuna for coming out of his Gundam in their mission in PMC Moralia.
Neil also plays the leader role between the Meister as he is the eldest among them but mostly he acts as a big brother figure for them.
Due to his past, he harboured a strong dislike toward terrorists who targeted civilians. This later developed into a hatred of the Gundam Thrones when the trio initiated attacks against private, civilian operated military equipment production facilities. This incident also affected Neil's desire to take revenge for family to the point he'd nearly kill his own comrade Setsuna and desired to kill Ali Al-Saachez despite being injured and almost unable to fight.
Lyle Dylandy
Season 1
Lyle is first introduced as Lockon's unnamed younger brother early on in season one, where he is shown carrying a bouquet of flowers to place on his family's grave as his brother watches him from behind a tree. He does not make another appearance for the remainder of the season; however, he is mentioned by name in Lockon's dying soliloquy, in which Neil remarks that the world of tomorrow would be the world in which Lyle would live in. Seiji Mizushima posed the question in an interview "But, which one is Lockon?", which implies that because we do not know which Lockon is hiding, we do not know which one is responsible for the rift between them.
Lyle is shown in the Gundam 00: Gundam Meisters PS2 game to be watching the mourning Tieria at his family's grave in the year AD 2311; this time, however, he is the one spying from behind the trees. This may have lead Lyle to become suspicious of Neil's fate, somewhat contradicting his later surprise at hearing of his brother's death.
Season 2
In the post-credits scene at the end of the season two premiere, Lyle makes a brief cameo where Setsuna recruits him into Celestial Being to become a Gundam Meister just as his brother was. Setsuna approaches Lyle, revealing Neil's identity as a Gundam Meister and how he died for Celestial Being's cause, and begins referring to Lyle as "Lockon Stratos." While Lyle questions if Setsuna and Celestial Being want him to take on Neil's dying wish, Setsuna casts the notion aside and instead asks if Lyle wants to change the world like his brother. Leaving the decision for Lyle to make, Setsuna passes along information that the Federation’s security bureau would be embarking on counter-insurgency operations against Katharon’s European bases soon. Lyle (under the codename Gene-1) contacts Klaus Grado and his Katharon comrades to pass along information on the Federation's plan before joining Celestial Being and acknowledging himself as Lockon Stratos. His appearance shocks the entire Ptolemaios crew, especially Feldt Grace, who had taken a liking to Neil.
Despite having accepted the task of being a Gundam Meister for Celestial Being, Lyle's loyalties seem to lie first and foremost with Katharon but does care for his comrades in Celestial Being. Throughout the series, Lyle frequently contacts the organization, sneakily passing on top-secret Celestial Being intelligence in order to benefit Katharon; one example is in the mission to rescue Allelujah, in which Katharon worked with Lyle's information to take advantage of Celestial Being's presence and rescue their imprisoned comrades. While these actions do not seem to lead to lasting harm, given that both parties have one common enemy, it is not explicitly stated if Celestial Being considers Katharon as an ally to aid, and thus Lyle's duplicity may be unwanted. Lyle also contacts the Katharons when Celestial Being is in need of help as shown in episode 14.
When A-Laws attack Katharon's base, he heads off and destroys all of the A-Laws Automatons in anger and later attacked Soma Peries when they began retreating. After the attack by A-Laws, he along with the other Meisters to act as a decoy to distract them from noticing the escape of the remaining Katharon members. After the battle, Lyle and Tieria go to search for the missing Allelujah. He is surprised to see Allelujah and Marie kissing, but jokes that he "did a good job".
Lyle and Allelujah later rescue Setsuna and Tieria from Ali Al Saachez, who had survived Neil's attempted killing four years ago. Tieria reveals to Lyle that Saachez was his brother's killer; however, Lyle doesn't seem to be bothered by it, as he claims to not be as concerned with revenge as Neil was. Even when Setsuna reveals that he was a part of the terrorist organization that killed Lyle's family, he still refuses to avenge them, believing that the past cannot be changed, and to fight for anything but the future would be futile.
Later, Lyle plays a crucial role in the assault on the A-Laws superweapon Memento Mori by using Cherudim's shield bit system to protect the Ptolemaios II , which could not form a defensive field as it was using all its power to storm the Memento Mori head-on. After attacks from Tieria and the Ptolemaios II exposed its electromagnetic-field powered, light resonance chamber, Lockon finished the weapon off by sniping the exposed weak point, which effectively destroyed the weapon in a gigantic explosion.
Abilities Although claiming to have no experience in mobile suit combat, Lyle is shown having the potential to be as skilled as his brother. He easily operates his Gundam during his first sortie in Allelujah's rescue mission and manages to shoot down several GN-XIIIs despite his role as a mere distraction, greatly surprising Lasse Aeon and confirming tactical forecaster Sumeragi Lee Noriega of his abilities. However in combat simulation Lyle only scored an accuracy rating of 78%. It is possible that Lyle is merely a natural pilot, most likely a talent gained from his brother.
Personality While not much is known about Lyle, he appears to be as easygoing as his brother. While outwardly working hard to fulfill the expectations of him as Lockon Stratos (even going so far as to ask Neil's former pet Haro what his catchphrase was), Lyle secretly and vehemently dislikes being compared to Neil (though he does have a great deal of respect for his brother, calling him "big brother" despite not having seen him for an undetermined amount of time (possibly several years, as he is surprised to know that he heavily resembles Neil) prior to his death and also by declaring that he'll live up to his and his brother's codename during the Meister's mission in destroying the Memento Mori superweapon). When he catches Feldt watching him during combat simulation, he abruptly kisses her to which she responds by slapping him across the face; Lyle later comments that he did this to lay her idea of him being Neil to rest.
Lyle harbors an intense dislike towards the A-Laws, and appears enraged after they massacre his Katharon comrades. At the same time, however, he is not the type of person to pursue revenge. Lyle claims that he doesn't want to obsess over the death of his family over 10 years ago as Neil had done, because he finds it important to fight for the future. Despite this, he says that he respects his family (Neil included), and still visits the Dylandy family's grave more than a decade after their death. Unlike Neil, Lyle's motivation for fighting for peace is unknown, as it is not grief or revenge like Neil's motives. It is possible that Lyle doesn't grieve as much as Neil over his family's death because he was somewhat distanced from them, though it can also be assumed that he is merely hiding his true feelings.
Lyle's role amongst the four Meisters is far from the "big brother" standing that Neil had with them. He seems to have a habit of often provoking Tieria Erde, who despite having warmed up to other people in general, still looks down on Lyle, who essentially has taken Setsuna's previous place in social standing. Lyle is also apparently less than honest to his new comrades, claiming no experience in mobile suit combat despite proving otherwise; moreover, he seems to be keeping his status as a double agent for both Katharon and Celestial Being firmly under wraps, with only Setsuna and the Katharon leaders knowledgeable about the connection. However, he does not seem to object to helping his fellow Meisters when in need. He is however, more distant and less socially-integrated with the Meisters than Neil was though it appears that he is somewhat more sociable with Setsuna and Anew, especially in the case of the latter, as hinted by the second ending. In episode 18 they are seen sleeping together and even admitted his love for her before the end of the episode, right in front of the bridge crew. He said "Ai Shiteiru", which translates as "I Love You" but is, within the context of the japanese language, a very strong way of saying "I Love You", as in it is very serious, and not said to everyone. He attempted to redeem Anew by expressing his love for her, even as she battled him in a mobilesuit, taken her subsequent death at Setsuna's hands very hard indeed. Indeed, he has somewhat become hostile towards Setsuna for this; even going so far as to almost shoot him in the back.
