Top ten best-selling albums recorded by Japanese artists

This is the list of top-ten out of the best-selling albums on the Oricon. Please note that the Japanese albums chart had been separated into LPs (started in 1970), cassette tapes (introduced in 1974), and compact discs (launched in 1985) charts until they were unified in January 1987. Led Zeppelin also needs to be on the list with selling 2.3 million copies of Led Zeppelin IV in 1971 with their hit "Stairway to Heaven," and "When the Levee Breaks."

Sales figure derived from data that the Oricon provided in 2007. Though digital sales play a big role in overall sales nowadays, this list does not take them into account.
