Similar to the first Liquid Swords album, The Return of the Shadowboxer was written and recorded in the same manner, where both GZA and RZA worked in the studio together, as opposed to the common modern collaboration method where producers send the artists their work through computers. In late January of 2011, GZA has announced that work on Liquid Swords 2 has been postponed while he works on another as-yet-untitled album.
