Dorman's performances were both musically and physically powerful, with his bass slashing the air, his feet pounding the stage and his bass notes forward in the music played by both bands. While recording In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, Iron Butterfly's Dorman assisted Erik Brann with the arrangement of Brann's song "Termination," and was given a co-writing credit.
