The League of Non-Aligned Worlds was a loose confederation of independent worlds and minor species, most of whom had endured subjugation under the Centauri Republic at its height. Each member species was self-governing, but they formed an economic alliance, political negotiating bloc, and at times of need a voluntary military alliance. The League of Non-Aligned Worlds was created to maintain a united front against a possible Centauri resurgence and protection from the expanding Narn Regime. The League's charter took on new meaning with the rise of the Dilgar

 agreed to aid the League and helped drive back the Dilgar.

As a result, the League cemented its reputation as a force which could influence at least one of the major powers. However, the League was fractious and often subject to petty internal rivalries. On the Advisory Council of the Babylon Station the League was represented by delegates from each member world, who as a group must come to a consensus to cast one vote on behalf of the entire League. In comparison, each of the other major powers were represented by a single individual with one vote; additionally, votes could be taken in the absence of the League representatives, which was not true for at least two of the major powers.
