The Latin Grammy Awards were launched in 2000 with a telecast aired on CBS. It was the first primarily Spanish language prime-time program carried on an English-language television network. Like the Grammy Awards, the Latin Grammys recognize artistic and technical excellence in the recording arts and sciences by peer vote (the Latin Grammy Awards Process). It has already come to represent the height of achievement in Latin music recording.

Like the Grammy Awards, the Latin Grammys recognize artistic and technical excellence in the recording arts and sciences by peer vote (the Latin Grammy Awards Process). It has already come to represent the height of achievement in Latin music recording. The 9th Annual Latin Grammy Awards was held at the Toyota Center in Houston on November 13, 2008. Juanes was the big winner of the night winning 5 awards.
