Biography

Lars Nilsson graduated from both Virginska Skolan in Sweden and Paris’ Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture.

Following fashion school he did an apprenticeship at the tailoring atelier of Chanel haute couture before joining the fashion house Christian Lacroix. From 1997 to 1999 he worked at Dior Couture as Collection Coordinator. After that he moved to New York to become the Design Director for the Polo Ralph Lauren women’s wear collection. From 2000 to 2003 he was Creative Director of Bill Blass Collection, designing both women’s and menswear.

In 2003 he returned to Paris to become Creative Director and also creative collaborator for perfume and cosmetics of Nina Ricci until 2006 and was appointed as Creative Director of Gianfranco Ferré in September 2007.

Over the past two years he has also been heavily involved in bringing his long-held ambition of a furniture and textiles collection to fruition.

In September 2009 he started his menswear label Mr. Nils.

Christian Lacroix

 as both personal assistant to Mr. Lacroix and senior haute couture designer. He worked directly with Lacroix on a number of books and the production of theatrical pieces.

Christian Dior

From 1997 to 1999 he worked with John Galliano at Dior Couture as Coordinator of both the haute couture studio and the fur collections.

Bill Blass

At 34 years old he was the direct successor of the founder Mr. Blass at this american fashion house. Ana Wintour confessed to be amongst his fans, wearing one of his dresses to the Vogue Fashion Awards in October 2001.During his tenure New York Magazine named him Designer Of The Year 2001. As well in 2001 he was elected to the International Best-Dressed List by Eleanor Lambert and Vanity Fair.

Nina Ricci

He revitalized the formerly faceless house to tap into a clientele of „uptown girls“ and „the new generation of socialites“ who included René Zellweger, Kate Beckinsale. In 2004 he designed the brand's first ever resort collection and was able to raise attention for the brand through hosting a bevy of international runway shows, trunkshows and soirées. He also worked on innovative collaborations as for example with the famous corsetier Mr. Pearl. In 2006 he was presented with the highest Swedish Fashion Award, the Guldknappen (swedish for: Golden Button).

Gianfranco Ferré

Following the founder Gianfranco Ferré's sudden death on September 25, 2007, Lars Nilsson was named Creative Director of Gianfranco Ferré

in September 2007, being in charge of women and men’s clothing and accessories for main and associated lines and licenses. Lars Nilsson left the fashion house after less than 6 months being replaced by Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi who have since been fired, too.
