. The Alejandro Villanueva Stadium, homefield for Alianza Lima, is located near the Matute housing project in the southern part of La Victoria proper. La Victoria is full of history, located in the heart of Lima.

La Victoria is, however, one of the most dangerous places in Peru, plagued by crime. The safest time to go there is when the team Alianza Lima plays against a minor team from outside of Lima, and even then, it's strongly advised by all tourist bureaus to stay well clear of the neighbourhood. The only safe way to go there is if you live there or if you walk with someone who lives there.
The neighbourhoods Mendozita, Tacora, La Parada and Cerro San Cosme and Cerro El Pino especially are very dangerous; even the police refuse to enter these neighbourhoods.
Gang violence, prostitution, drug trafficking and gunfights are very common in La Victoria.
