Before the center was founded, there was Meirin elementary school founded by local people of Kyoto in the Meiji era. This center has studio, gallery, auditorium, Japanese-style hall, free space, library, information corner, Japanese-style tea room, cafe (coffee shop Maeda Coffee Meirin), common room, shops, and etc. The center is a three-story reinforced concrete structure building. The management aims at supporting artistic activities, gathering and transmitting arts information, planning [[artist in residence]] programs, and promoting artists-to-the public.
