 and self-government agreement in 2004. As part of the land claim agreement, KDFN received 1042 sq. km. of Settlement Land within the traditional territory. Over 30 sq. km. of KDFN's Settlement Land are within the City of Whitehorse boundaries.

KDFN is building a new cultural centre on the banks of the Yukon River, in downtown Whitehorse. The official opening of the new Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre will be June 2012.

As a self-governing First Nation, KDFN has its own constitution. Rick O'Brien was elected as the Chief of the First Nation in March 2011.. Council members are: Jessie Dawson, Jennifer Edzerza, Charlene Charlie, Alicia Vance, Ron MacIntosh and Ray Sydney.
