Kreplach (sing. ?????, krepl) are small dumplings filled with ground meat, mashed potatoes or another filling, usually boiled and served in chicken soup. They are similar to Italian ravioli and Chinese wontons. In many Ashkenazi homes, kreplach are served at the pre-fast meal before Yom Kippur, on Hoshana Raba, and on Purim. Some Ashkenazi communities eat a cheese filled version on the Shavuot holiday, when dairy dishes are traditionally served.
