History

The town grew out of the settlement of Vizhaikha . Since 1926, the town served as the 4th branch of the Solovki prison camp, and since 1929—as the independent management of the Vishera camps. In 1930, a paper mill was built in Krasnovishersk.

Krasnovishersk was granted town status in 1942.

A memorial to Varlam Shalamov was erected in Krasnovishersk in June 2007 on the site of his first labor camp.

Economy

Timber and woodworking industry, ferrous metallurgy. Until 2006 main company of town was paper mill "Visherabumprom" which is currently being declared bankrupt and closed.

Uralalmaz mine produces high-quality diamond mining in deposits near Krasnovishersk.

There are no direct railway link with town, nearest station is in Solikamsk. It is served by Krasnovishersk Airport
