The name of Kovvuru was derived from Govu vooru ( A town of Cows). Since Cows are considered to be very holy in Indian Culture, this name is supposedly very holy.
During the Godavari Pushkaralu, held every 12 years, Goshpada Kshetram (Gopadala revu) and temple are sacred places.
