 although this was a controversial decision with many members leaving in protest. Duke Wilhelm accepted the offer on July 13, 1918 and took the name Mindaugas II. On November 2, 1918 the council changed the constitution replacing it with a republican one thereby ending the short reign of King Mindaugas II.
