Keyser High School is a high school located south of Keyser, West Virginia

 with an enrollment of more than 800 students from southern Mineral County, WV. The school's fight song is sung to the tune of Anchors Aweigh.

History

Piedmont High School was combined into Keyser High School in 1976. In the late 1990s, Keyser High School moved from its former location on East Piedmont Street which had served as Keyser High for over 100 years, to a brand new, state-of-the-art facility approximately three miles south of Keyser.

Extracurricular activities

Student groups and activities at Keyser High School include Arts and Cultural Enrichment Society, band, debate, Future Educators Association, Going Green Club, Hi-Y, Rachel's Challenge, and Tornado Technology Tips.

The Keyser High School athletic teams, known as the Golden Tornado, compete in baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track, volleyball, and wrestling.

1956 (A), 1962 and 1969(AA) West Virginia Football State Champions, along with competing in the A 1957 Championship game.

1967 and 1969 West Virginia High School Baseball State Champs

1997 Girls AAA 4x100 and 4x200 State Track and Field Champions.

2009 Track and Field State Champions and 2010 State Runners-Up, along with numerous individual state champions.

In addition to these championships, the Golden Tornado has also competed for the State Title in Cheerleading, Cross Country, and many individuals have competed at the state level in Wrestling, Tennis, Golf, Cross Country, and the aforementioned Track and Field.

Rivalries

Keyser enjoys rivalries with several schools:
Frankfort High School and Keyser compete annually in every sport, highlighted by the football rivalry, known as the Battle for Mineral County or simply the Mineral Bowl, with the winning team receiving the Mineral Bowl Trophy.

Keyser High and nearby Allegany(MD) High School compete in the oldest football rivalry in the Cumberland, Maryland area.

Fort Hill High School(MD), Musselman High School, Mountain Ridge High School(MD), and Hampshire High School all are yearly opponents of the Golden Tornado in many sports, including football.
