The racial makeup of the city was 98.32% White, 0.28% Native American, and 1.40% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.42% of the population.

In the city the population was spread out with 26.9% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older. Drug Problems:

Jim Stewart, 58, former mayor of Keithsburg and his wife, Cindy Stewart, 54, were arrested on Jan. 16, 2011 at their residence at 901 S. 10th St., Keithsburg and charged with aggravated manufacture of methamphetamine.

Mercer County deputies were investigating a clandestine methamphetamine lab located at the residence. More charges are pending the outcome of this investigation.

Jim Stewart was elected Mayor of Keithsburg in April 2005 for a four-year term, leaving the office in May 2009.

Mercer County deputies were assisted by the Aledo Police Department and the Illinois State Police Meth Response team.

Any charge is merely an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Floods

Keithsburg lies next to the Mississippi River. During the Great Flood of 1993, Keithsburg was heavily damaged. The town rebuilt and resumed normal activity.
On June 14 of 2008, two nearby levees broke which flooded the town of Keithsburg again.
