During the constructing of Kuybyshev Reservoir, the lowest part of Kazanka's valley was flooded. Part of riverbed was separated from the reservoir by damms, new riverbed was constructed. In 2008 new project was proposed, to sluice ground in the wide downstream, which is in fact a gulf of reservoir to build a business quarter there.

Kazanka divides Kazan on two equal parts. There are six bridges over Kazanka in the city, the most notable being Millennium Bridge
