History

, and resulted in European domination of India for about 450 years. At that time Malabar was ruled by the Zamorins (Samoothiris, spoken locally) who gave a warm welcome to Gama. Malabar was abundant in spices, and produced a calico textile. Currently it is one of the most important tourist places in Kerala, with a wide and beautiful beach.
Actually Gama landed at port of panthalayani, that is some 6km away from kappad. ( refer William LOGAN'S 'Malabar Manual')

And also u can see a very old temple on a big rock (URAPOTTUM KAVU)which is projected in the see.u can enjoy the total view of kappad from there.

Education

Kappad is home to a famous school, Ilahiya Higher Secondary School, which offers broad educational opportunities.poilkave higher secondary school and Thiruvangoor Higher Secondary School are well known and are the oldest in the area. It has a successful list of alumni.
