 acquired his rights in 2000. The year 2001 proved to be the best season of his career, as he helped the club win a championship by scoring a total of 42 goals with only 18 years of age.

He was noticed by Estudiantes Tecos and he signed for the Mexican club in the summer of 2002. During the first season at Tecos, Castillo justified his transfer scoring several goals along the competition, but his good form began to drop costing him a place in the starting line-up. Castillo remained with Tecos until May 2004, when he was loaned out. During the following years, he had brief spells with several clubs around South America including Rosario Central

In 2009, Castillo joined Hong Kong First Division team South China on trial, but was dismissed one month later after playing two friendly matches. In January 2010 he signed a one-year contract with hometown club Blooming
