The band plays a mix of several styles such as pop , rock , soul and punk , which they call "gatepop." The lyrics to John Olav Nilsen is entirely in Norwegian. The band began to form in late 2006 while the current strain of the band came together in January 2007 in Bergen , with the exception of Alastair Guilfoyle and Tim H. Bjerke, who came in at a later date.

The band played several concerts in Bergen and Western Norway in 2007 and 2008. The song "Diamonds & Cherry" was released on the compilation disc Opplett in 2008 . The concert they played the 18 December 2008 compared with 5071 tjommiene area Baby! at Mono in Oslo , was the Dagsavisen voted the Year Concert "in 2008.

The band was in 2008 Weekly Urørt [1] at P3 , and was also among the finalists under the title of the year Urørt in 2009. The band finished 3rd place in the final. In February 2009, attended John Olav Nilsen & The Gang at by: Larm in Oslo .

The band was signed at the company VME Voices Music & Entertainment in February 2009 and the debut album for true to be good was published on 14 September 2009 . The album was well received among critics. Dice 6 in Dagsavisen, Aftenposten, Bergen Tidende, Firda Post and Lydverket. Dice 5 in Dagbladet, VG and Bergensavisen. 6. March 2010 the band received gold disc for selling over 15,000 of their debut disc.

22. September, the album on 3 place on the official list top 40 albums and 1 place on the charts top 30 Norwegian album.

In late 2009, for truth to be well chosen as this year's Norwegian albums by, among other things, Dagbladet , the Norwegian Broadcasting Lydverket, Address, Aftenposten and more. [2] [3] In addition, it won the critic top album of the year among all the albums that came into all the world in 2009. It is the third time a Norwegian albums win this poll since it was started in 1989. During the Grammy Award 2009 on 6 March 2010 they won the class rock for their debut album. They were also nominated in the category this year's newcomer.
