Perry is the author or editor of eight books and more than 135 journal articles and book chapters. Professor Perry’s recent research has focused on public service motivation, performance-related pay, community and national service, and government reform. During his career, he has conducted innovative and cutting-edge research on public sector collective bargaining, public technological innovation, civil service reform, and public organizational behavior. His research on public service motivation has stimulated research now underway in more than a dozen countries in North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. During the twenty-year period from 1985–2005, he was the sixteenth most cited scholar in public policy, public administration, and public law. Perry’s scholarly contributions have been recognized with many awards, most recently the 2008 Dwight Waldo Award (presented by American Society for Public Administration
