. Jagatsingpur got the recognition of a district on 1 April 1994, which is situated at a distance of 60 km from Cuttack. Jagtsingpur district has made Orissa's literature and culture bright. There exists Paradeep Port and fertilizer factory in this district. Alaka, Biluakhai, Kusumi, Hansua, Kuanria and Lunijhara rivers belong to this district.

Jagatsinghapur is located at 20.27°N 86.17°E. It has an average elevation of 15 metres (49 feet).

History

Jagatsinghpur District came into being on 01.04.1993. Prior to that, it was a part of the old Cuttack District which was divided into four new districts. This coastal district is surrounded by districts of Kendrapara, Cuttack, Khorda, Puri and Bay of Bengal in different directions.

Attractions

Paradeep Port : It is the largest port of Orissa. Sarala Temple : It is a famous temple of Jagatsingpur district where Goddess Saraswati is worshiped as Maa Sarala. Siddheswar Parida was changed to Adikabi Sarala Das due to the blessings of goddess Sarala. It is at a distance of 15 km from Jagatsinghpur town. Garh Kujanga, Jagatsinghpur, Jhankad, Paradeep and Paradeep Garh are some of the visiting places of this district.Gorekhanath temple is the mostattractive place in jagatsinghpur.it is four Km distance from sarala temple. Anather attraction of Jagatsinghpur district is the Jagannath Temple of Garoi which is 3 km away from Machhagaon. This temple has been built in the bank of Devi Nadi(The Devi river) with a charming atmosphere.

How to Reach

The railway line from Cuttack links Paradip. Train service is not frequent; hence it is better to go by bus. There is frequent bus service available from Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Bhadrak and Balasore. Jagatsinghpur is only 60 km from Cuttack.
