A family is found dead in an apparent home invasion

 is preparing the husband/father, who was not present when his family was killed, for trial. He is a protected witness, being driven to and from Borgia's office by the detectives while in protective custody for his safety. Borgia is abducted by people who want the husband/father dead, believing that they can get his location from her. After missing for awhile, she is found dead in the trunk of a stolen vehicle. The medical examiner determines that she asphyxiated on her own vomit, due to being severely beaten while her mouth was duct-taped. McCoy, determined to bring her killers to justice, crosses the line to see them pay.
