"Kids from the big schools will get recruited, especially if they're in technology or economics,” Richards said. “And the wealthier kids might ask Mom, Dad, or their uncle to hook them up. But, what happens to the other 25 million college students looking for an internship? Where's the marketplace?"
The site launched in early 2010. as an entirely free resource and internship search engine, then added a paid "Premium Advantage" student membership during the summer touting featured search and resume placement, a corporate directory and its proprietary "Intern Certification Program," among other listed services.
As of Oct. 1, 2010, the site claimed to index more than 20,000 internships in the United States
and abroad.
