Company Background

The company was first conceived in London by Etienne Uzac, then a student at the London School of Economics. Uzac was introduced to Johnathan Davis through mutual friend Dev Pragad in 2005, and recruited Davis to help launch the company.

In late 2005 both Uzac and Davis moved to New York to launch the site, with Uzac primarily focused on business strategy, while Davis coded the site and wrote the first articles.

The site went live in December 2005, and the two formally incorporated the company in April 2006 as the The International Business Times Inc..

Pragad later joined the company after finishing his doctorate in Electrical Engineering at the Kings College of London, in 2009, to help set up the global network. Prior to that Pragad was assisting Uzac and Davis on technology and operations matters on an ad hoc basis.
