The Inter-American Dialogue is a U.S. based think tank for policy analysis, exchange, and communication on issues in Western Hemisphere affairs. The Dialogue brings together public and private leaders from across the Americas to address hemispheric problems and opportunities.

Dialogue activities are directed to generating new policy ideas and practical proposals for action, and getting these ideas and proposals to government and private decision makers. Based in Washington, the Dialogue conducts its work throughout the hemisphere.

The Inter-American Dialogue, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, is funded by contributions from individuals, corporations, governments and foundations that help support its programs and provide essential operating revenue. http://www.thedialogue.org/page.cfm?pageID=2

Members

The Dialogue's 100 members are from the United States, Canada, and 22 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean—including political, business, academic, media, and other non-governmental leaders. Twelve Dialogue members served as presidents of their countries, nearly twenty have served at the cabinet level, and seventeen have held seats in congress. Twenty per cent are in the business or finance sectors. Seven members are associated with the media and nine with universities. A majority of our Board of Directors are from Latin American and Caribbean nations, as are more than half of the Dialogue's members and participants in our other leadership networks and task forces.

Events

The Inter-American Dialogue convenes events ranging from small briefings to major conferences throughout the year across an array of critical issue areas—Latin American trade and investment links, economic and political trends, energy integration, globalization and poverty, education reform, women and political power, remittances and migration, race discrimination in Latin America, the challenges facing the countries of the Andean region, the changing politics and economics of Cuba, the precarious equilibrium in Haiti, and ongoing threats to press freedom in the Americas. http://www.thedialogue.org/page.cfm?pageID=4

Publications

Inter-American Dialogue publications are designed to help shape and clarify policy debates in Washington and bring a regional perspective to decision makers throughout the Americas. Dialogue staff publish nearly 100 op-eds and articles annually in newspapers, magazines, and leading policy journals across the hemisphere.
