IEEE Antennas & Propagation Society
Encyclopedia
The IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S) is a society of the IEEE.

History

Before the merger of AIEE and IRE in 1963, the predecessor of the IEEE Antennas & Propagation Society (AP-S) was the IRE Professional Group on Antennas and Propagation (PGAP), formed in 1949.

Field of Interest

The society’s field of interest is defined on its homepage as “antennas, including analysis, design, development, measurement, and testing; radiation
Radiation
In physics, radiation is a process in which energetic particles or energetic waves travel through a medium or space. There are two distinct types of radiation; ionizing and non-ionizing...

, radio propagation
Radio propagation
Radio propagation is the behavior of radio waves when they are transmitted, or propagated from one point on the Earth to another, or into various parts of the atmosphere...

, and the interaction of electromagnetic waves with discrete and continuous media; and applications and systems pertinent to antennas, propagation, and sensing
Sensing
Sensing is the present participle of the verb sense. It may also refer to:* Myers-Briggs sensing, a cognitive function that focuses on the tangible and concrete over the abstract and theoretical...

, such as applied optics
Optics
Optics is the branch of physics which involves the behavior and properties of light, including its interactions with matter and the construction of instruments that use or detect it. Optics usually describes the behavior of visible, ultraviolet, and infrared light...

, millimeter- and sub-millimeter-wave techniques, antenna signal processing
Signal processing
Signal processing is an area of systems engineering, electrical engineering and applied mathematics that deals with operations on or analysis of signals, in either discrete or continuous time...

 and control, radio astronomy
Radio astronomy
Radio astronomy is a subfield of astronomy that studies celestial objects at radio frequencies. The initial detection of radio waves from an astronomical object was made in the 1930s, when Karl Jansky observed radiation coming from the Milky Way. Subsequent observations have identified a number of...

, and propagation and radiation aspects of terrestrial and space-based communication, including wireless, mobile, satellite, and telecommunications".

Publications

The IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society publishes three notable academic publications, including:
  • IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation
IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation
IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation is a peer reviewed scientific journal. The targeted readership is derived from those whose field of interests dovetail with the IEEE Antennas & Propagation Society...

  • IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters
IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters
IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters is an annual peer-reviewed scientific journal with the goal of rapid dissemination of short manuscripts, in the antennas and wireless propagation domain. It is an official journal of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society...

  • IEEE Antennas & Propagation Magazine

Conferences

AP-S sponsors a number of conferences
Academic conference
An academic conference or symposium is a conference for researchers to present and discuss their work. Together with academic or scientific journals, conferences provide an important channel for exchange of information between researchers.-Overview:Conferences are usually composed of various...
