During the writing process of this song, Bowling for Soup did some remarkable research about happiness. This research led them to the fact that Denmark is the happiest place in the world and the song was originally going to be called "I'm Lykkelig" (Danish for 'happy'). They then traced the word happy back to its original form of 'gay,' which stunned the band and led to the obscure double entendre of the title.
